Witnesses, video helped police find shooting suspect

Witnesses and surveillance video proved key in the arrest of a 20-year-old man in last week's fatal shooting outside a convenience store, according to a police report released Monday.

Las Vegas police arrested James Johnson on Friday after a four-hour standoff at his home a mile from the scene.

Chadrick Wilson, 37, was shot and killed just after midnight Thursday in the parking lot of the Sahara Mini-Mart on Sahara Avenue, just east of Nellis Boulevard.

According to the report, three witnesses at the store identified Johnson as the triggerman. Johnson and Wilson started arguing inside the store, the report said. The argument spilled outside, where Wilson was shot four times.

Johnson frequented the store, and witnesses identified him from a police photo. Their stories were confirmed by surveillance video, the report said.

After identifying him as the suspect, police obtained a search warrant for Johnson's home on Albarth.

After the standoff, police confronted Johnson with the surveillance footage, and he admitted it was him on camera. When police asked Johnson where the gun was, he asked for a lawyer and stopped talking, the report said.

Johnson, who uses the moniker "Crazy," was booked on several charges including murder with a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon.
