Woman guilty of running with her child after court hearing

SOMERVILLE, N.J. -- A Nevada woman has pleaded guilty to fleeing from New Jersey in 1984 with her 6-year-old daughter during a custody battle.

Nancy Dunsavage had been living in Incline Village under an assumed name, until her daughter sought to use her real name to get married. Authorities in Nevada said the girl apparently didn't know her mother was wanted in New Jersey.

Dunsavage pleaded guilty on Friday in state Superior Court in Somerville to custody interference. A judge sentenced her to 18 days in jail, the length of time she served after being detained last October.

Prosecutors say Dunsavage did not have legal custody of her daughter when the two vanished after a 1984 hearing. Dunsavage told authorities she left New Jersey because she was afraid of her ex-husband.
