Woman killed after vehicle hits bus

A 23-year-old woman died Monday afternoon after rear-ending a nearly full bus with her car, Las Vegas police said.

The identity of the woman was not released.

Police spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said the crash occurred shortly before 2 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Charleston Boulevard near Rainbow Boulevard.

Police said the woman hit the RTC bus with a 2004 Ford Taurus. Passengers were leaving the vehicle at a bus stop just east of Rainbow, police said.

There were conflicting witness reports on whether the woman was ejected from her car or if she opened the door and fell out, Meltzer said.

She was pronounced dead at University Medical Center.

Three passengers on the bus were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries, police said. The injured passengers range in age from 22 to 54.

The crash marked the 14th traffic-related fatality under the jurisdiction of Las Vegas police.
