Fourth person arrested after March 7 downtown attack, arson

A fourth person was arrested Sunday in connection to an attack and arson that left a man tied up and tortured in a burning building near downtown Las Vegas on March 7.

The man survived the attack, and police arrested three people later that week in connection with it: Luis Angel Castro, 29, Edward Honabach, 28, and Fabiola Jimenez, 40. At the time, police said they were looking for a fourth person, and on Sunday, they took that person — Anthony Lionel King, 28 — into custody.

King was only arrested after he was shot in a separate incident and taken to a local hospital, where he is still being treated for his injury, Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said Monday. The Sunday shooting stemmed from an altercation between King and two others; King and another person were shot about 5:38 a.m. near the 1800 block of Lewis Avenue, she said.

“Once they got him to the hospital and identified him, they found out he had the warrant for the other event,” Meltzer said. “As soon as he is cleared, he will be transferred to the Clark County Detention Center.”

King faces eight felony charges: conspiracy to murder, attempted murder, battery, extortion, robbery, kidnapping, mayhem and arson — the same charges the three people arrested earlier this month also face, according to court records.

Should King be cleared from treatment in time, he is scheduled for a court hearing Tuesday.

The man who survived the March 7 attack was able to escape the burning building, despite being bound and suffering injuries that included multiple stab wounds, a mostly cut-off right pinky finger, two extracted fingernails and a slit throat, according to police records.

Detectives later determined the group demanded $300 from the man as they tortured him in the vacant house before setting it on fire. The man told police he owed one of them $50 for towing his car March 6, and one of those initally arrested also told police the man owed the group $200 for drugs.

Honabach and Castro are also scheduled for a hearing Tuesday. Jimenez is slated for a hearing on Wednesday.
