Henderson inmate dies after hanging self in cell

A Henderson inmate who hanged himself in his cell Aug. 13 died four days later.

Nicholas Southwick, 35, died Aug. 17 at a Henderson hospital, according to the Clark County coroner’s office. His death was ruled a suicide.

Southwick was jailed Aug. 8 at the Henderson Detention Center on several counts, including five of burglary and three of property destruction.

Henderson police spokesman Scott Williams said Southwick tied jail-issued socks together and hanged himself from the top bunk in his cell. He was alone.
