Dead woman found in Arts District house

Updated March 10, 2017 - 11:21 am

A man has been arrested in connection with a homicide Thursday night in the Arts District.

Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to an apartment complex at 913 S. 3rd St., near East Charleston and South Las Vegas boulevards, about 8:50 p.m. Thursday to investigate reports of screams heard from inside one of the apartments.

Officers tried to contact residents inside the apartment but did not get a response. They forced their way inside and found an unresponsive woman and a man trying to leave. Police said the man, 38-year-old Robert Roginsky, was detained and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Roginsky and the woman lived together in the apartment, and concerned neighbors called police when they heard the woman screaming.

Roginsky suffered a medical episode during an interview with police and was taken to the University Medical Center for treatment. He was booked in absentia at the Clark County Detention Center on one count of open murder.

The Clark County coroner’s office will identify the dead woman once family has been notified. Her cause of death has not been determined.

This is the 33rd homicide investigated in Clark County and the 29th investigated by Metro in 2017.
