Henderson police ID 2 officers in fatal shooting

Updated March 2, 2020 - 5:41 pm

Henderson police identified the two officers involved in a shooting Saturday that left a man dead following a domestic disturbance.

They are officers Travis Nusbaum and Donald Okami, according to a release from the Henderson Police Department.

Police had been called to the 800 block of Viento Del Montagna Avenue around 12:10 p.m. on Saturday to reports of a “violent domestic” disturbance involving a weapon. When officers arrived, they tried to use low-lethal weapons against a man with a knife, police said.

When those attempts failed the man “aggressed officers,” who shot him, Lt. Kirk Moore told the media on Saturday. It was the department’s first officer-involved shooting this year.

Nusbaum has worked for the department since 2007, and Okami has worked for the department since 2015, and both are currently assigned to the field operations bureau, the department said.

Both officers were placed on administrative leave.
