5 picks for art in Las Vegas

‘Young Frankenstein’

That’s pronounced “Fronken-steen,” in Mel Brooks’ monster musical comedy version (based on his 1974 silver-screen classic), as the heir to the Frankenstein name returns to Transylvania to follow in his infamous grandfather’s (dancing) footsteps. Super Summer Theatre wraps up its 42nd season by “Puttin’ on the Ritz” starting at 7:05 p.m. Thursday at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park; performances continue at 7:05 p.m. Sept. 8-9, 14-16 and 21-23. For tickets ($15 in advance, $20 the day of show), visit supersummertheatre.org.

Lon Bronson Band

It’s a blast — literally and figuratively — when Lon Bronson brings his horn-infused, 14-piece ensemble back to Cabaret Jazz at The Smith Center for a Labor Day weekend show featuring the sounds of Blood, Sweat and Tears, Chicago and other classic rockers at 8 p.m. Saturday. Visit thesmithcenter.com for tickets ($15-$35).

‘A Mad Hatter’s Tea’

Ceramics take center stage as Clay Arts Vegas presents “A Mad Hatter’s Tea,” featuring Lauren Smith’s altered forms (rendered in calm, cool hues) and Magda Gluszek’s surreal sculptures. The exhibit opens Friday and continues through Sept. 30 at 1511 S. Main St. Click on clayartsvegas.com for details.

Velada Cultural Peruana

In celebration of the St. Rose of Lima holiday (honoring the patron saint of Peru and Latin America’s indigenous peoples), the Peruvian Cultural Association of Las Vegas presents an evening of traditional dances from the Peruvian province of Jauja at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive. Tickets are $11 in advance, $13 on performance day; to purchase, go online to clarkcountynv.gov/parks/Pages/winchester-cultural-center.aspx.

Frankie Moreno

If it’s Tuesday, it must be Frankie Moreno’s night to shine — as the retro-meets-modern Vegas entertainer returns to Cabaret Jazz at The Smith Center at 8 p.m. Tuesday, spotlighting sounds from vintage to funk. (Moreno’s upcoming Cabaret Jazz dates: Sept. 19, Oct. 3 and 30, Nov. 24 and 28 and Dec. 15.) For tickets ($30-$42), visit thesmithcenter.com.
