Desert perspective: Red Rock Canyon Photo Contest winners revealed

Winning photos in the Friends of Red Rock Canyon’s 2015 Red Rock Canyon Photo Contest are set to be displayed through June 28 in the gallery at the Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center, 1000 Scenic Loop Drive. There were 155 entries this year in six categories. The winners were:

Creative category: first place, Sondra Farris, “Thistle Get Ya”; second place and ranger’s choice, Diane Frankenfield, “Through the Looking Glass”; third place, Roger Hembree, “Red Rock Harvest Moon”; honorable mention, Les Farris, “Moon Watcher.”

Desert Plants category: first place, Frankenfield, “Apache Plume”; second place and ranger’s choice, Sondra Farris, “Liquid Crystal”; third place, Hembree, “Bee Utiful”; honorable mention, Claire Desmond, “Ward Apache Plume Seeds”; honorable mention and ranger’s choice Best in Show, Anthony Donofrio, “Spring Bloom.”

Landscape category: first place, Adam Loehnert, “A Night on First Creek Trail”; second place, Janet Correa, “Rainbow Mountains”; third place, Adam Loehnert, “Top of Turtle Head”; ranger’s choice, Les Farris, “Candy Corn Mescalito”; honorable mention, Les Farris, “Thru the Haze”; honorable mention, Hembree, “Dawn’s Early Light”; honorable mention, Joe Pohle, “Faith.”

Monochromatic category: first place, Antonio Santo, “Desert Beauty”; second place and ranger’s choice, Sondra Farris, “Winter Lace”; third place, Elizabeth Carmer, “Spring Snow”; honorable mention, Carmer, “Desert Rays.”

Wildlife category: first place, Diane Hall, “Libby on the Prowl”; second place, Hall, “Up Close and Personal with Hugo”; third place, Lynn Thigpen, “The Face of Red Rock”; ranger’s choice, Barbara Ulmer, “Colors of Red Rock”; honorable mention, Cheryl Hobbs, “Big Horn Guide.”
