Casinos celebrate 8/8/08 with food, gaming specials
Remember how popular July 7 was last year (7/7/07)? Several casinos are trying to rekindle the magic this year on Aug. 8 (8/8/08) with food, entertainment and gaming specials. The Fiesta Rancho, Fiesta Henderson and Gold Coast have announced 8x points (see below), and it is a good guess that more casinos will follow suit. The Plaza is having a drawing at 8 p.m. for one $808 grand prize and eight $88 cash awards. Beginning at 12:01 a.m., slot players earn one ticket for every 88 points and must be present at the drawing to win. Table players also can earn entries by hitting a four-of-a-kind in eights, getting a pair of eights at blackjack, winning on 8, 18 or 28 at roulette or by hitting a hard eight at craps.
Every Saturday in August, Jerry's Nugget is hosting the "Del Mar Handicapping Contest." Players pick their favorite horse in any five of the first eight races on the Saturday Del Mar card and (hopefully) earn points for win, place or show. The first place winners will receive $400 cash, the second receives $100, plus any winners who are More Club card holders also will receive a $30 dining certificate. Entry fee is $10, and participants may play up to three cards.
On Sundays through Thursdays, Palace Station, Boulder Station, Texas Station, Santa Fe Station, Sunset Station, Green Valley Ranch and Red Rock Resort are giving out $100 in cash or gasoline to slot players earning 10,000 points ($10,000 coin-in) and $50 to video poker players earning 20,000 points ($20,000-$80,000 coin-in). Lesser awards for smaller amounts of play are available. On Fridays and Saturdays beginning Aug. 8, as well as Aug. 31, each Station Casino is giving away a total of $5,000 and one Chevy Malibu Hybrid. Players can earn entries at slots, table games, bingo and live poker, and must be present at the 8:15 p.m. drawing to win.
The Hard Rock Hotel "Hot Seat" promotion returns on Monday. Every hour from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., one player is selected to choose from 20 envelopes containing $100-$500 in free play or $500-$1,000 in cash.
Every night this month, the Vegas Club is drawing for $500 cash, including a top prize of $300. Players can earn entries at the slots and table games.
