Buckwheat pancakes make grade, and griddle
Most of the buckwheat consumed in the valley, I would wager, is in the form of soba noodles, served in Japanese restaurants and sold at Japanese markets and possessed of a firm texture and somewhat assertive flavor. But the grain is used in many other things as well, including pancakes, which is what Paul Kennedy is seeking from fellow Taste of the Town readers. And, true to form, they came through.
Karen Langbert, Blake Myers and Sharon Gottlieb all suggested The Egg Works and sister restaurant The Egg &I, which have a combined six locations in the valley. “They serve three large cakes as a short stack and (the cakes) are extremely tasty,” Gottlieb emailed. …
For Joan Amato, who’s looking for Bubbies sauerkraut, Gottlieb and Langbert reported finding it at Glazier’s Food Marketplace, 8525 W. Warm Springs Road, and Langbert said she saw it at Sprouts Farmers Market, which has four stores in the valley. …
For Virginia Clark, who’s looking for frozen clams casino, Ann Brown and Kathi Turner reported finding them at what Turner called “the ever-popular Glazier’s Marketplace,” and Diane Fimiano, who said they’re also called stuffed clams, found them at the Sprouts Farmers Market at 2575 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson. …
For Steve Hulse, who’s looking for a local source for Hawaiian Sun Lilikoi Passion drinks in six-packs or cases, Leslie Fay recommended Whole Foods Market at 100 S. Green Valley Parkway in Henderson and most Walgreens stores, which, as she noted, have Hawaiian-food sections. Turner reported finding them at Glazier’s and at CVS Pharmacy at 1950 Village Center Circle. She added that if Hulse is retired military (or an active-duty member, for that matter), the commissary at Nellis Air Force Base is another local source. …
More on Breakstone cottage cheese: Maria Young emailed to say she thinks Kraft’s Simply Kraft cottage cheese, which she finds at Wal-Mart, tastes just like it, while sister product Knudsen, which several readers had spotted, “does not even come close.”
