Crab apples need extra work

This week readers have good news and bad news for Pat Caspary.

The bad: The spiced crab apples Caspary is seeking don’t seem to be available anywhere in town. The good: Caspary expressed a willingness to make them from fresh crab apples, if necessary, and B.J. Roth e-mailed that she found those at Albertsons at 10250 W. Charleston Blvd., while Joan Draschner reported finding them at Whole Foods Market at 8855 W. Charleston Blvd. …

For Becky Bush, who’s looking for Bundt cake mixes, Arlene Gagnon wrote to say she’d seen them in a J.C. Penney catalog called “Cooks,” and thanks to that tip I found them on the company’s Web site, www.jcpenney.com (just enter “Bundt” in the search box), in 10 flavors. …

And for the local source for Mrs. Weiss’ Kluski Noodles Bush also is seeking, Marlene Helfrich e-mailed that she learned from the company that they’re no longer shipped to Las Vegas. If Bush (and others) feels like taking a drive, Ron Satkowiak of Mesquite e-mailed that he gets them at Smith’s there. And Helfrich noted that they can be obtained by the individual package or case of 12 from www.hometownfavorites.com (or call 888-694-2656) or by the case from www.amazon.com. …

For Christine Johnson, who is looking for restaurants serving pumpkin soup this fall, Jeanette Jarrett recommended Frediani’s, 2895 N. Green Valley Parkway in Henderson. …

For David Albert, Bob Daniels e-mailed that egg pasta can be found in the kosher section at Albertsons at 2830 Bicentennial Parkway in Henderson. …

More on horehound candy: B.J. Morris wrote that it also can be found at www.candycrate.com (or call 866-422-6399), which carries a lot of retro candy. …

Reader requests: Daniels is looking for fresh-made mozzarella cheese. …

Patty Olivera is looking for Yaya Yaya’s plain popped popcorn, which she used to get at Albertsons. …

Ging Lopez-Dee is looking for self-rising corn flour. …

Mike Maholick is looking for Campbell’s Manhattan clam chowder. …

Lisa DeSoto is looking for a local source for Crush strawberry-flavor drink. …
