Hunt over for Polish sausage

Sunday -- New Year's Day -- will be an occasion for a lot of us to eat those traditional good-luck foods, just in case. I haven't seen fresh Polish sausage listed as one of them, but if you're Polish, you might find it very lucky indeed. And so is Lester Oliver, whose fellow readers found local sources for it.

Daphne L. Smith, Ginny Kompst, Karen A. Parrish and Dave Pruszka all recommended the Polish Deli, 5900 W. Charleston Blvd., and Pruszka also recommended the Stewart Market, 2021 Stewart Ave.

For Clara Kopp and Marie and Jeff Finney, who are looking for malt for making malted milkshakes, Charlie and Carol Franco, Bev Greer and Jane Sinksen emailed that it can be found at Wal-Mart Supercenter; Dottie Douglas found it at Albertsons at 2979 E. Desert Inn Road; and Denise Gerski found it in the baking section at Vons at 2511 Anthem Village Drive in Henderson. ...

Here's an illustration of why some items that seem like they should be easy to find aren't: For Ruth Whitman and others looking for Canfield's Diet Fudge Soda, Jamie Kimberly reported finding it in the soft-drink aisle, "at the very end, next to the refrigerated soda case," at Smith's at 3850 E. Flamingo Road, while Scott Kagan emailed that at the Smith's at 2211 N. Rampart Blvd. "it is not in the soda aisle; it is in the dietetic food section." ...
