Readers crack case of tasty local omelets

Yes, you do indeed have to break an egg to make an omelet — sometimes a lot of eggs, since local restaurants serve omelets that contain as many as a half dozen. That’s an obvious health hazard for some of us, but then again, it’s likely a once-in-a-while indulgence. And yes, this week we have several reader suggestions for Aubrey Marie, who’s looking for the valley’s best omelets.

Ann Brown recommended Norm’s Egg Cafe at 3655 S. Durango Drive (adding that “the lox, cream cheese and onion one is wonderful!”) and the Greek omelet at E&N Family Table Restaurant at 4460 S. Durango Drive; Judy Collinsworth suggested the buffet at Sunset Station at 1301 W. Sunset Road in Henderson (adding that “they have many fresh add-ins to select from”); Valerie Weinberg likes the puffy baked omelets at The Original Pancake House at 4170 S. Fort Apache Road (adding that her favorite is Gouda); Bob Wilczynski recommends the build-your-own omelets served at the Emerald Island Casino at 120 Market St. in Henderson; Joyce Hambacher recommends Jamms Restaurant at 1029 S. Rainbow Blvd. (“which has a White Castle omelet that really tastes like a White Castle hamburger!”), Phil Mlynek says the biggest difference is in the style of potatoes served and recommends The Cracked Egg, which has five locations in the valley, and the Egg Works/Egg &I, which has six; and Hambacher, Mlynek, Fred E. Wagar and Sharon Gottlieb recommend the Omelet House, which has three locations. …

For Joanne Quarz, who’s looking for local restaurants that will serve turducken this Thanksgiving, Lola Pokorny, owner of Lola’s: A Louisiana Bistro, emailed that her Summerlin location at 1220 Town Center Drive will serve it at a “Feast of Feathered Friends” starting at 5 p.m. Nov. 25. Reservations are recommended; call 702-871-5652. …

And for Janet Gamboa, who’s looking for dill rye bread, Dave Reynard emailed that it’s available at Winco, which has stores at 80 N. Stephanie St. in Henderson and 6101 N. Decatur Blvd. …

More on escargot in cans: Dale Swift reported finding them at Cost Plus World Market at 2151 N. Rainbow Blvd.; there’s another Cost Plus at 3890 Blue Diamond Road.
