Readers reel in smoked fish

Smoked fish is what Ilene Farr is looking for, and smoked fish is what her fellow readers have found.

Ann Brown faxed that Glazier’s Food Marketplace, 8525 W. Warm Springs Road, has an extensive selection of smoked fish. Roberta Shulman, noting that Farr didn’t specify the kind of fish she is looking for, said Trader Joe’s, Sam’s Club, Costco and Bagel Cafe (301 N. Buffalo Drive) all carry smoked salmon, and Costco has whole whitefish as well as whitefish salad.

Also, Midge Gamage and Valerie Weinberg reported seeing whole smoked fish at Costco, and for smaller amounts, Weinberg suggested Bagel Cafe or Weiss Deli & Bakery at 2744 N. Green Valley Parkway in Henderson. Jan Visser recommended Whole Foods Market, and also Delaware Delicacies in Hancock, N.Y., which makes smoked eel and hot and cold smoked salmon; call 607-637-4443. “They ship overnight and it is well worth the price,” he added. ...

For Tom Scott, who’s looking for Polly-O String Cheese, Brown also recommended Glazier’s. ...

For Gloria Gonzalez, who’s looking for New York-style egg creams, Ed Bordenka recommended Carnegie Deli at The Mirage, 3400 Las Vegas Blvd. South. And Alan Van Ees noted that they’re easy to make: Put 1 to 1½ inches of chocolate syrup in a tall 12- to 14-ounce glass and fill halfway with soda water or seltzer. Stir. Add about 2 ounces of milk. Stir again, then fill to the top with seltzer. ...

For Gary “Lumpy” Austin, who’s looking for Sal’s chicken sauce, Steve Vinik emailed that it can be ordered from Calabresella’s Deli at www.newyorkstyledeli.com (800-285-3791). ...

For Margaret Sazer, who’s looking for fresh frozen grated/shredded coconut, Dee Wolff emailed that it can be found at the International Marketplace at 5000 S. Decatur Blvd., “in the second open freezer case in the back of the store on the right.” ...

For Jeanne Walker, who’s looking for cinnamon-sugar pita chips, Robin Vegas suggested Trader Joe’s. ...
