Steakhouses still serving old Vegas standard

Las Vegas cuisine may be difficult to define, but there are certain dishes that practically scream “old Vegas,” and chateaubriand is one. Availability may be lower than in years past, but there still are several good versions around, and fellow readers have suggestions for searcher John Peterson.

Susan Quiros recommended the Golden Steer, 308 W. Sahara Ave., and Strip House at Planet Hollywood, 3667 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Richard Andes suggested Michael’s at the South Point, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Dion Johnson recommended the Twin Creeks Steakhouse at the Silverton, 3333 Blue Diamond Road, and Spirou Khoury suggested Hank’s at Green Valley Ranch Resort, 2300 Paseo Verde Parkway in Henderson. …

For Florence Lekawski, Khoury said a sweet bread with raisins inside and slivered almonds on top can be found at Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market. …

For Nazir Kazi, who’s looking for a local source for Marina del Ray frozen seafood products, Thomas Houston reported spotting them at Walgreens at 4905 W. Tropicana Ave. …

For Ruth Bentel, Colleen Sams emailed that Chester’s Puffcorn, in cheese and regular flavors, is available at Albertsons at 2650 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson. …

For June Brooks, Sams said Snows Clam Chowder is available at the same Albertsons store. …

And here are a couple of online sources for those hard-to-find (at least in Las Vegas) foods from our past: For Jackie Bolton, Don Stewart emailed that Dixie Lily products can be ordered at SouthernTraditionalFoods.com (678-744-7487). And for readers looking for Lebanon and ring bologna and similar products, Mary Whispell-Murray recommended www.CountryStoreMeats. com (800-313-4267). …

More on frozen sfogliatelle: Michele Bonelli emailed that they’re also available at Cugino’s Italian Deli, 4550 S. Maryland Parkway. …

Here are more reader requests.

Karen Arbogast: La Spanola extra-virgin olive oil, Scandinavian Delite fruit spread in strawberry-rhubarb and Jell-O custard pudding mix (not instant);

Gerard de Marigny: Ronzoni rigatoni, Ronzoni lasagne, Entenmann’s Crumb Cake without cheese and Tone’s Paprika in an 18-ounce shaker (the latter from a source other than Sam’s Club);

Anne Salus: Strubs Whole Sour Pickles, which she used to get at Vons;

Jennie Guerin: Haagen-Dazs cookies-and-cream ice cream;

Irma Gilbert: Lancaster brand frozen Chip Steak;

And Bob Holzlohner: a place on the east side of the valley that makes “a really good fresh veggie pizza.”
