Taste of the Town: Readers spill the beans to help fulfill request

There are, it appears, a lot of fans of hearty, old-fashioned B&M Baked Beans out there.

When Roberta Shulman contacted Taste of the Town in search of the beans in 16-ounce cans, which she used to get at Albertsons, several of her fellow readers replied almost immediately.

Robert Watson, who also used to get them at Albertsons, found them at Vons at 2511 Anthem Village Drive in Henderson, Richard Markus reported finding them at Vons at 2667 E. Windmill Parkway in Henderson and at Glazier’s Food Marketplace at 8525 W. Warm Springs Road, and Alan Van Ees and Sandy King found them at Wal-Mart Supercenters at 2310 E. Serene Ave. and 6464 N. Decatur Blvd., respectively (with King adding, “They are hidden in with the others and there is not a large supply, so you need to look for them”). …

Van Ees found the Heinz Vegetarian Baked Beans that Shulman also was seeking at Wal-Mart as well. Gloria Meyers and Sharon Gottlieb found them in The Kosher Experience section at Smith’s at 2211 N. Rampart Blvd., Gottlieb also found them at Glazier’s and at Cost Plus World Market at 2151 N. Rainbow Blvd. (there’s another Cost Plus at 3890 Blue Diamond Road), and Murray Leitner found them at Vons at 1940 Village Center Circle. …

For Dave Reynard, who’s looking for Hills Bros. coffee, Sandra Ross and Jan Albright reported finding it at Glazier’s. And Albright said she also orders larger, 33.9-ounce cans from www.Staples.com (800-333-3330), adding that if the order is a certain amount, she gets free next-day delivery. …

For Chuck Weakland, Pamela Moore reported that Indian fry bread is available at Carlito’s Burrito’s at 3345 E. Patrick Lane, which uses it as the base for its Navajo tacos. …

And for Ed Martin, who’s looking for a place where he can buy a single jar of Peppadew peppers, Moore said they’re available on the olive bar at the Sprouts Farmers Market at 3365 E. Tropicana Ave. “Not in a jar, but you can get as many or as few as you want,” she added. Sprouts has four other locations in the valley, including one opening today at 10000 W. Sahara Ave. …

More on Driscoll’s strawberries: Sue Retter and Darlene Nix emailed that they’re available at Sam’s Club, which, Retter added, seems to have the most consistent supply, and “actually, we think Sam’s has the best fruit in the area.” …

More on Dutch Crunch rolls: Jan Visser reported finding them at Vons.

More reader requests:

Leitner is looking for a restaurant, preferably on the west side, that serves “a good steak picado like I used to get in San Jose.” …

David Miller is looking for Frosted Apple Pop Tarts. …

Janet Adams is looking for Chinese restaurants that serve house-made fried dumplings made with pork and plump dough skins. …

And Bob Schaffhauser is looking for a restaurant that serves stuffed cabbage, cabbage rolls or some version thereof, or a deli that serves the same, adding, “I am willing to travel to find a comfort food from my youth!”
