Saturday events reach out to women

It may be Super Bowl weekend, but women are the focus of the Las Vegas Women's Fair and the Findlay Volkswagen Girlie Bowl.

The Las Vegas Women's Fair is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the South Point Events Center, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

The event will feature more than 125 businesses offering information to women on health, fitness, counseling, cosmetics, free makeovers, on-site demonstrations and more.

Tony Dovolani and Jane Seymour from "Dancing with the Stars," Sebastian Roche of "General Hospital" and Herb "Moo Moo" Evans from the Harlem Globetrotters will make appearances.

Thunder From Down Under will perform at noon and 2 p.m. and Roni Josef Designs will have fashion shows at 12:45 and 2:45 p.m.

The Girlie Bowl, meanwhile, will pamper women 21 and over from noon to 4 p.m. at PollyEsthers nightclub at the Stratosphere, 2000 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

The free event will feature entertainment by American Storm, a Déjá Vu Lingerie fashion show, demonstrations including massages, manicures, tanning, personal training, Pilates, nutrition and more.

UNLV to present ballet Saturday, Sunday

The ballet "TRANSIT(ION)," which dramatizes the voyage of Eastern European Jews through Ellis Island to New York, will be performed by the UNLV Dance Department at 8 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday.

The performance, choreographed and scripted by dance professor Margot Mink Colbert, will be presented in Dance Studio 111 of the Alta Ham Fine Arts Building, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway.

Tickets are $15 general admission and $5 for students and seniors.
