San Diego’s Donut Bar to replace O Face Doughnuts in downtown Las Vegas

Doughnut, donut. Tomato, tomahto.

San Diego-based Donut Bar announced Wednesday that it will replace the shuttered O Face Doughnuts in the space in the John E. Carson Building at 124 S. Sixth St.

When? fans ask.

“Soon,” was the social-media reply.

Donut Bar, which calls itself “the most award-winning donut shop in the country,” has gained a cult following (and national attention) since it opened in 2003 in downtown San Diego. A second location at the San Diego International Airport serves doughnut fans on the run and those who are just passing through.

What’s the draw? A dedication to local sourcing and seasonality, which is a big deal in the food world these days, as well as innovative flavors, at least some of which change daily. Order a Strawberry Split and you’ll get a sugared raised doughnut, split and filled with strawberries and cream. And it might be hard to resist caramelized pineapple or Oh, My Peanut Butter Oreo, although they also offer more usual flavors, including old-fashioned, Boston cream and the more recently popular maple-bacon.
