You don’t have to go to New Orleans for oyster dish

Who says you can’t get good seafood in the desert? Not me, because I know better. And for Minnie Mistretta, who’s looking for charbroiled oysters similar to those served at a New Orleans restaurant called Drago’s, readers have a couple of suggestions.

Robert Goldsmith and Laura Crowton recommended the oysters served at Rhythm Kitchen at 6435 S. Decatur Blvd., where the menu notes that they’re from the Gulf Coast and prepared with a garlic-Parmesan butter, and where Crowton said they’re available in the bar during happy hour from 4 to 6:30 p.m. daily. And Mary Jo McCartney recommended those served at Lola’s A Louisiana Kitchen, adding that the new location at 1220 N. Town Center Drive has “a grill in the middle of the restaurant, and they are wonderful.” …

To Rick Rosen, who contacted Taste of the Town in search of Slovakian blood sausage, Evelyn Austin replied, “Not sure what the difference is between Hungarian and Slovakian blood sausage,” but added that Rosen can find “excellent” frozen blood sausage at the Hungarian Market at 6380 S. Eastern Ave. …

For Richard Aulino, who’s looking for Middle Eastern barbari bread, Manny Rahimzadeh emailed that he can find it at Habib’s Persian Restaurant &Mediterranean Market at 2575 S. Eastern Ave., where, he said, it’s baked in-house every day. …

For Sheri Jacobs, who is on the lookout for Weight Watchers candy in bags, William Isaac reported spotting it at Albertsons at 201 S. Stephanie St. in Henderson, adding, “of all places, they were hanging beside the pharmacy window.” …

For Linda Rehn, who’s looking for a local restaurant that serves breaded pork tenderloin sandwiches, Ann Brown recommended Mesa Grill at Caesars Palace, 3570 Las Vegas Blvd. South. …

For Hillary Williams, who’s looking for ready-to-microwave frozen salmon patties, Dave Levesque emailed that Smart &Final carries a 10-pack and Vons a four-pack. …

And after last week’s report on local sources for challah, Ron Hirschkind emailed to note that Cafe Cortez at the El Cortez, 600 Fremont St., serves it with its “great matzoh ball soup loaded with chicken and veggies … $7.95 for the bowl,” adding, “for most, this could be a meal in itself.”
