Greatest hits of opera featured in Friday night show at UNLV

The Myron Heaton Chorale and Nevada Opera Theatre are joining forces to present an evening of famous opera scenes on Friday.

Eight soloists and a 50-voice chorus will be featured in the program at 8 p.m. in the Doc Rando Recital Hall on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway.

Tickets are $30 general admission and $20 for students, seniors, military and the handicapped, and are available at the UNLV Performing Arts Center box office, online at UNLVTickets.com or by calling 895-2787.

Prior to the concert, a hosted champagne reception will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by a patron dinner at 6. Tickets are $100 per person and can be purchased by calling 731-3370. There also will be a reception in the lobby after the concert.

Opera selections include "The Grand Finale II" from "Aida," "Va Pensiero" from "Nabucco," "The Anvil Chorus" from "Il Trovatore" and "La Traviata's" famous Act I "Libiam, amor," all by Verdi; "Toreador" from "Carmen" by Bizet; "Deep in My Heart" and "Drink, Drink" from "The Student Prince" by Romberg; and "The Wedding Chorus" from "Lohengrin" by Wagner.

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Puccini's birth, "Te Deum" from "Tosca" will be featured, along with two-time Grammy nominee Demetra George, who will sing an aria from "La Rodine."
