4 concerts to see in Las Vegas this week

Father John Misty

We are a race of demented monkeys on a godless rock that refuses to die and we numb ourselves to it all by having virtual reality sex with pop stars. We are reminded of all this but three songs into “Pure Comedy,” the third record from singer-songwriter Father John Misty (Josh Tillman), where the laughs are directed at the futility of trying to make sense of mankind’s reason for being and the irony is laid on asphalt-thick. Such depressing sentiments, such stirring songs, with Tillman’s symphonic folk the perfect umbrella for all those oncoming brimstone showers. See Father John Misty at 8 p.m. Thursday at Brooklyn Bowl at The Linq. Tickets start at $37.50; call 702-862-2695.

Megadeth

Hey, it’s not just indie folk iconoclasts who possess a jaundiced view of modern society. On these thrash lifers’ latest record “Dystopia,” their 1th overall, they envision a “Post American World.” See them with local openers A Friend A Foe at 8 p.m. Friday at The Pearl at the Palms. Tickets start at $41; call 702-944-3200.

Kings of Leon

“We Are Like Love Songs,” Kings of Leon declare in acronym form on their most recent album, “WALLS,” where they encourage listeners to “Waste a Moment” in the company of four Tennessee rockers bonded by blood and a shared appreciation for slow-burners that swell into anthems. See them at 9 p.m. Friday at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel. Tickets start at $59.50; call 702-693-5000.

Power Trip

Doesn’t matter that you’re at work: Stop what you’re doing right now and thank these Texans for dropping the year’s most mosh-worthy metal record, crossover-thrash throwback “Nightmare Logic,” by stage diving from your cubicle desk and starting an impromptu pit outside human resources. Then do the same at 7 p.m. Friday at Las Vegas Elks Lodge No. 1468. Tickets are $15; call 702-258-3557.
