Bronx Wanderers playing South Point

A lot of people hail from the Bronx, but the names Dion, Chazz Palminteri and Danny Aiello come up more than others.

The Bronx Wanderers band has connections to all three. Vinny Adinolfi celebrates the city's sound in the band where his two sons have spent their teens. It sprang from Adinolfi working at the same record label with Dion (DiMucci, not Celine), received early support from Palminteri and sometimes performs as an opening act for Aiello and his band.

All the stars covered in the show are "guys who were part of what my story is," Adinolfi says. The success of "Jersey Boys" has upped the ante of Four Seasons tunes. But "first and foremost, I approach each song as a producer," he says. The authentic sound comes from reconstructing "the way they made those records, when a lot of guys just get up and sing."

Still, the city's ties are so strong that Adinolfi says people come up to him after the shows not to praise the sound, but to ask, "What part are you from?"

"I get this whole geography thing."

The band plays at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Showroom at the South Point, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Tickets are $20-$30; call 797-8055.
