King Tuff comes hard with far-out garage rock
January 29, 2015 - 2:22 pm
“I’m going deeper into the unusual world,” King Tuff (aka Kyle Thomas) sings on the title track of his self-titled second record.
That’s pretty much King Tuff’s mission statement right there.
On King Tuff’s latest record, “Black Moon Spell,” howlin’ garage rock meets T. Rex-style glam raunch on songs about sick-minded girls, heavy metal record collections and galloping rainbows.
Thomas tempers his blustery guitar playing with soft-scrubbed vocals that occasionally bring to mind Elliott Smith.
The end result is a sound as wild as the women of whom Thomas sings.
