Veteran funk band War rolls into Brooklyn Bowl

For a band like L.A.’s War, “funk” has always been a feeling, a mindset as much as a genre designation.

Hence, the group incorporates as many blues, jazz, Latin, R&B and even psychedelic flourishes into its repertoire as it does straight-up funk throwdowns.

Though only keyboardist Leroy “Lonnie” Jordan remains from the group’s original late-’60s lineup, the band continues to tour heavily, and rightfully so.

Their songs, often cut from longer jams on their records, are best in the unabridged setting that the stage provides.
