We Are So Not Friends, Zac Efron — VIDEO

So in case you missed it, Skrillex isn’t mad at Zac Efron for his upcoming film “We Are Your Friends.” In his interview with Katie Couric, he’s too polite to be a troll. Although he did allow that it looks corny, otherwise he says something innocuous like, “Zac Efron’s an actor. He should be in movies,” when Mee Maw Katie asks him his thoughts on the flick.

Skrillex is obviously a good dude. He’s not about to be a hater. So I’ll do him a solid and tell you like it really is. No filter here. Not a movie critic here, but luckily you don’t need to be — or even see the entire movie, for that matter — to discern just how incredibly stupid it is. The trailer speaks for itself. Sample the dialogue: “Whenever you guys are ready to start making some real loot, you need to holler at me,” says that contemptuous dude from “The Walking Dead.”

“We Are Friends” is supposed to be about EDM — well, that is to say, it centers on Efron’s character, who believes 128 BPM is the sweet spot, evidently, when it comes to moving the masses — but it’s really just the latest off the long line of assembly line angst. If I had to forecast its prospects, I’d say it will likely age about as well as “Breaking.”

Oh, and “We Are Your Friends,” the title? First of all, no, dude, actually, we’re so not. But I have to assume that braintrusts who greenlighted this giant piece of crap settled on that title when they realized that more appropriate handles like, oh, I don’t know, “Trite,” “Hackneyed” or “Cliched” just weren’t all that marketable. Anyhow, sorry to be stirring a tempest in a teapot here, but if you see something, say something, right?
