Aretha Franklin show canceled; Jamie Foxx due at Foxtail

There are four new Las Vegas shows going on sale at the end of the week, but before we get to that, there's some other breaking concert announcements you should be aware of.

If you were planning on seeing Aretha Franklin on Friday at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, you should probably start making other plans. The Queen of Soul has canceled her show because of exhaustion after traveling from the Motor City to California for three shows in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Oakland.

"I thank all of my fans, friends and supporters who bought tickets and hope to see you all soon," Franklin says in a statement. "I extend my sincerest regrets."

Refunds will be issued according to how they were purchased, with those bought with cash eligible for a refund at point of purchase and credit cards automatically reimbursed.

In honor of its first anniversary, the SLS Las Vegas is bringing in Jamie Foxx to perform at Foxtail Pool next weekend. Foxx is slated to rock a 75-minute set with songs from past albums interspersed with tunes from his latest record, "Hollywood: A Story of a Dozen Roses," which features the single "You Changed Me." Tickets, which are on sale now, are $30 (702-761-7619).

Now for the shows going on sale this week:

The Wonder Years are preparing for the release of their new album, "No Closer to Heaven," due out Sept. 4 on Hopeless Records. And judging from the first two tracks we've heard from the record — "Cardinals" and the stirring "Cigarettes & Saints" — it sounds just splendid. You can hear the songs live when the Philadelphia band plays the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay on Nov. 5. Tickets for the show, which also features Motion City Soundtrack, are $22.50 to $25 (702-632-7600).

Two more new shows at the House of Blues go on sale this week: The first features Legendary Latin rockers El Tri on Sept. 13. Tickets for the show are $35 to $38 and go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. The other features the local metal men of Hemlock, who are slated to melt faces Oct. 2. Tickets for that show are $10 to $13 and go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.

Shinedown and Breaking Benjamin are slated to share a bill at The Joint at Hard Rock with support from Nothing More on Oct. 22. Tickets for the show range from $40 to $175 and go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.
