Smokey not ready to retire

Only in Las Vegas can you see Smokey Robinson on video several times each week, occasionally at a restaurant, and at least a couple of times each year in concert.

Robinson lends his name cachet to the Motown tribute group Human Nature; they sing “Tracks of My Tears” with a video of the young Smokey in each show at The Venetian.

The present-day Robinson, now 73, does his whole show on Saturday at the Eastside Cannery.

A few years ago, the part-year Las Vegan told the Review-Journal he plans on becoming “the George Burns of this end of show business.”

“I tried retirement when I retired from the Miracles,” he explains. “I became vice president of Motown and I figured I would do that for the rest of my life — just go to my office and be involved in that.

“After three years of that, I was climbing the walls to do this again.”
