Theater schedule for 2010-11

Here's a month-by-month look at what's in store:

September

Sept. 9-12: Off-Strip Productions and the Onyx Theater present "The Missionary Position," the second in the Mormon Book Trilogy written and starring Steven Fales; at the Onyx, 953 E. Sahara Ave., No. 16.

Sept. 9-25: The British National Theatre of America and Super Summer Theatre present Larry Shue's "The Foreigner," about a man who speaks a lot more English than he lets on; at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park.

Sept. 9-25: Las Vegas Little Theatre presents Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard's "Greater Tuna," a two-person sketch about life in Hicksville; at the LVLT mainstage, 3920 Schiff Drive.

Sept. 16-25: Off-Strip Productions and the Onyx Theatre present "Facts of Life: The Lost Episode," a wicked version of the '80s sitcom, written by Jamie Morris; at the Onyx.

Sept. 17-Oct. 3: Las Vegas Little Theatre presents David Lindsay-Abaire's black comedy "Fuddy Meers," about an amnesiac whose memory is limited to a day at a time; at LVLT's Fischer Blackbox.

Sept. 17-26: Nevada Conservatory Theatre presents Sam Shepard's "Fool for Love," about two violent people who can't live with or without each other; at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas' Judy Bayley Theatre, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway.

Sept. 18-Oct. 13: Playing in repertory is William Shakespeare's "The Adventures of Pericles," an updated version about a man's quest for high adventure; Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard's "Greater Tuna," with two actors impersonating a slew of small-town Texas folks; and Wendy Kesselman's "The Diary of Anne Frank," about a family hiding in an attic from the Nazis in 1942 Amsterdam. All shows take place on the campus of Southern Utah University, 351 W. Center St. in Cedar City, Utah.

October

Oct. 1-9: RagTag Entertainment and the Onyx Theatre present the Tom Jones/Harvey Schmidt musical "I Do! I Do!" about the history of a marriage; at the Onyx.

Oct. 1-10: Rainbow Company presents Brian Strom's premiere of "The Zombies Walk Among Us," about the walking dead following an earthquake; at Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Oct. 1-23: Theatre-in-the-Valley presents Edward Albee's "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" about a young couple who come to an older couple's home on the wrong night; at various locations.

Oct. 2-23: The city of Henderson and the Las Vegas Shakespeare Company present William Shakespeare's "Macbeth," about a man who learns to stay away from witches; at various locations.

Oct. 8-17: Nevada Conservatory Theatre presents Lanford Wilson's "The Hot L Baltimore," about the goings-on in a seedy motel lobby; at UNLV's Blackbox.

Oct. 14-30: Off-Strip Productions and the Onyx Theatre present "The Rocky Horror Show," by Richard O'Brien, a musical about a young couple who make a very wrong turn in the middle of a dark, stormy night; at the Onyx.

Oct. 14-23: Las Vegas Academy presents the Nicholas Hope/Jesse Jones/Jamie Wotten comedy "Southern Hospitality," about four sisters trying to save their hometown; at the school's Blackbox, 10th Street and Lewis Avenue.

Oct. 15-24: The College of Southern Nevada presents Tom Stoppard's "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead," a Tony-winning comedy about two minor characters from "Hamlet"; at the college's BackStage Theatre, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave., North Las Vegas.

Oct. 18-Nov. 20: Signature Productions presents Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II's "The Sound of Music," about a postulant who must fight nuns, a captain, seven children and the Nazis before she can find true love; at the Summerlin Library, 1771 Inner Circle Drive.

Oct. 23-24: The College of Southern Nevada presents "A 'Loverly' Afternoon of Lerner and Loewe," a concert of songs featuring musical director Jack Gaughn; at CSN's Nicholas Horn Theatre, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave., North Las Vegas.

Oct. 29-Nov. 14: Las Vegas Little Theatre presents Ira Levin's thriller "Veronica's Room," about a woman lured into a threatening situation; at LVLT's Fischer Blackbox.

Oct. 29-Nov. 7: Nevada Conservatory presents Ted Tiller's "Count Dracula," a lighthearted version of Brian Stokers' novel; at UNLV's Judy Bayley Theatre.

November

Nov. 4-20: Off-Strip Productions and the Onyx Theatre present "DRAG," an original revue by Christopher Kenny; at the Onyx.

Nov. 4-20: Cockroach Theatre presents Naomi Lizuka's "Polaroid Stories," a blend of classical mythology and real-life stories told by street kids; at a location to be announced.

Nov. 5-21: Las Vegas Little Theatre presents John Patrick Shanley's "Doubt," about a nun who suspects a priest of child abuse; at LVLT's mainstage.

Nov. 11-20: Las Vegas Academy presents Arthur Miller's "The Crucible," about a young farmer whose wife is arrested for witchcraft; at the school's Lowden Theatre, Ninth Street and Clark Avenue.

Nov. 19-21: The College of Southern Nevada presents a reader's theater version of Ben Jonson's "Volpone," a satire of greed and lust about an aging miser; at CSN's BackStage Theatre.

Nov. 19-Dec. 5: Nevada Conservatory Theatre presents Frank Wedekind's "Spring Awakening," an adult story about the sexual adventures of four teenagers; at UNLV's Blackbox.

December

Dec. 1-3: Signature Productions presents "A Signature Christmas," a songfest celebrating the holidays; at Summerlin Library.

Dec. 2-11: Off-Strip Productions and the Onyx Theatre present "SantaLand Diaries," based on the essay by humorist David Sedaris about his adventures working as a Christmas elf; at the Onyx.

Dec. 2-11: Las Vegas Academy presents "It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play," adapted by Joe Landry from the Frank Capra film, about a man who learns some important life lessons; at the school's Blackbox.

Dec. 3-12: Rainbow Company presents the Charles Schultz musical "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," based on the Peanuts comic-strip gang; at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St.

Dec. 3-19: Las Vegas Little Theatre presents Will Kern's "Hellcab," about the adventures of a cabdriver; at LVLT's Fischer Blackbox.

Dec. 10-17: Theatre-in-the-Valley presents "A Charlie Brown Christmas," by Charles Schultz; at locations to be announced.

January

Jan. 13-29: Cockroach Theatre presents John Patrick Shanley's "Danny and the Deep Blue Sea," about two misfits who seek a better life; at a location to be announced.

Jan. 14-29: Off-Strip Productions and the Onyx Theatre present Del Shores' comedy "Southern Baptist Stories," about four gay men raised in a traditional church; at the Onyx.

Jan. 14-30: Las Vegas Little Theatre presents Alan Ayckbourn's "Bedroom Farce," about couples who have trouble philandering; at LVLT's mainstage.

Jan. 21-Feb. 6: Las Vegas Little Theatre presents David Stevens' "The Sum of Us," about the relationship of a widowed father and his gay son; at LVLT's Fischer Blackbox.

Jan 28-Feb. 6: Nevada Conservatory Theatre presents the Tom Jones/ Harvey Schmidt musical "The Fantasticks," about two young people in love who learn to deal with life's realities; at UNLV's Judy Bayley Theatre.

February

Feb. 4-5: the Utah Shakespearean Festival Student Touring Ensemble presents William Shakespeare's "Macbeth," about a man whose kingly ambitions defeat him; at College of Southern Nevada's Nicholas Horn Theatre.

Feb. 4-12: Rainbow Company presents Karen McKenney's original "Sagebrush Stories," another chapter in an ongoing series about life in Old Nevada; at Reed Whipple Cultural Center.

Feb. 10-26: Las Vegas Academy presents the Mark O'Donnell/Thomas Meehan/Marc Shaiman musical "Hairspray," about a plus-size heroine who finds fame and love in 1960s Baltimore; at the school's Lowden Theatre.

Feb. 18-27: The College of Southern Nevada presents Christopher Durang's "Why Torture is Wrong, and the People Who Love Them," a comedic take on all-American violence; at CSN's BackStage Theatre.

Feb. 18-March 6: Las Vegas Little Theatre presents Craig Lucas' "Prelude to a Kiss," about a supernatural event that tests a couple's love; at LVLT's mainstage.

Feb. 22-March 18: Theatre-in-the-Valley presents Charles Schultz's "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," based on the Peanuts comic strip; at locations to be announced.

Feb. 26-28: The Ira Aldridge Theatre presents Ossie Davis' "Purlie Victorious," about a traveling preacher who runs into discrimination, Georgia style; at the College of Southern Nevada's Nicholas Horn Theatre.

March

March 4-13: Nevada Conservatory Theatre presents Robert Benedetti's "Summers of Fear," about Jonas Salk; at UNLV's Judy Bayley Theatre.

March 10-26: Off-Strip Productions and the Onyx Theatre present a musical adaptation of the Sam Raimi/Bruce Campbell film "Evil Dead," about five college students who find terror in the woods; at the Onyx.

March 24-April 9: Cockroach Theater presents Will Eno's "The Flu Season," about a hospital romance that goes bad; at a location to be announced.

March 28-April 30: Signature Productions presents "Singin' in the Rain," a musical adapted from the film by Twyla Tharp, about the beginning days of sound in motion pictures; at the Summerlin Library.

March 31-April 8: Las Vegas Academy's "Dream," a movement, music and magic adaptation of William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream"; at LVA's Lowden Theatre.

April

April 1-10: Nevada Conservatory Theatre presents a new translation of Euripides' "The Trojan Women," about tough times during the war between Athens and Sparta; at UNLV's Blackbox.

April 1-10: Rainbow Company presents Mary Zimmerman's "Metamorphosis," a contemporary version of a Greek myth; at Reed Whipple Cultural Center.

April 1-17: Las Vegas Little Theatre presents Paul Rudnick's comedy "Jeffrey," about a young man trying to cope with the AIDS crisis; at LVLT's mainstage.

April 7-23: Off-Strip Productions and the Onyx Theatre present Charles Busch's "Die, Mommie, Die!" about a very twisted family; at the Onyx.

April 8-17: The College of Southern Nevada presents an original musical revue; at CSN's BackStage Theatre.

April 15-17: Theatre-in-the-Valley presents William Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing," about a couple who keep bickering to try to conceal their love for one another; at locations to be announced.

April 28-May 6: Las Vegas Academy presents "The Case for Showcase," featuring the talents of the magnet school's upper class; at LVA's Blackbox.

April 28-May 14: Off-Strip Productions and the Onyx Theatre present the James Lapine/William Finn musical "Falsettos," about a gay man trying to raise a son in the early days of AIDS; at the Onyx.

April 29-May 15: Las Vegas Little Theatre presents a production of the winner of its new plays competition; at LVLT's Fischer Blackbox.

April 29-May 8: Nevada Conservatory Theatre presents Michael Frayn's "Noises Off," a farce about backstage chaos; at UNLV's Judy Bayley Theatre.

May

May 6-22: Las Vegas Little Theatre presents Neil Simon's "Lost in Yonkers," a coming-of-age tale about two brothers; at LVLT's mainstage.

May 15-22: Theatre-in-the-Valley presents William Inge's "Picnic," about how a young man changes the lives of the family members next door; at locations to be announced.

June

June 2-18: Off-Strip Productions and the Onyx Theatre present Charles Busch's "Psycho Beach Party," a sick takeoff of the wholesome '60s beach movies; at the Onyx.

June 3-12: Rainbow Company presents Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman's "How I Became a Pirate," based on the popular picture book about a young hero swept up in an adventure with pirates; at Charleston Heights Arts Center.

June 8-25: Stage Door Entertainment and Super Summer Theatre present the Charles Strouse/Thomas Meehan/Martin Chamin musical "Annie," about a billionaire who loses all perspective about a little girl and her dog; at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park.

June 23-Oct. 29: Playing in repertory: William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," about love and lust in the forest; Shakespeare's "Richard III," about a guy with a terrible inferiority complex; Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," about a pair of teenagers who find out it's best to listen to Mom and Dad; Meredith Willson's "The Music Man," where music brings love to a small, stubborn Iowa town; and Michael Frayn's "Noises Off," about a third-rate roadshow company trying to get through a performance. All are on the campus of Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah.

July 13-30: Philip Selburne Productons and Super Summer Theatre present the Bob Martin/Don McKellar/Lisa Lambert/Greg Morrison musical "The Drowsy Chaperone," about a spoof of old musicals; at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park.

July 15-30: Off-Strip Productions and the Onyx Theatre present the Bill Russell/Frank Kelly musical "Pageant," about the goings-on backstage at a beauty contest; at the Onyx.

July 25-Aug. 27: Signature Productions presents the Alan Menken/Howard Ashman musical "Little Shop of Horrors," about a plant who vows to take over the world; at the Summerlin Library.

August

Aug. 10-27: Jade Productions and Super Summer Theatre present the Jerry Bock/Sheldon Harnick/Joe Stein musical "Fiddler on the Roof," about a Jewish man fighting off his daughters, his loudmouthed wife, and the local Russians; at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park.
