First things first: The Emmys don't matter.

If winning TV's top prize couldn't save "Arrested Development," what good are they?

Still, when the Jane Lynch-hosted soiree rolls around (5 p.m. Sunday, KVVU-TV, Channel 5), it'd be nice if a couple of the millennium's best were finally recognized after having left the air.

Steve Carell is the sentimental favorite for his "Office" farewell.

And the heart-on-its-sleeve "Friday Night Lights" -- up for best drama at last, as well as nominations for Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton -- deserves all three for an ending as miraculous as those of the games it chronicled.
