99 Words About … Showtime’s less dirty than it sounds ‘Masters of Sex’

It’s like the “Mad Men” of gettin’ it on.

Well, thanks to Don Draper’s proclivities, “Mad Men” is often the “Mad Men” of gettin’ it on. But you get the idea.

“Masters of Sex” (10 p.m. Sunday, Showtime) follows the groundbreaking sex research of Masters and Johnson (Michael Sheen, Lizzy Caplan) that began in 1957.

The premiere is chock-full of nudity and simulated sex, but future episodes settle down and focus on the science, the characters’ relationships and the times.

The acting is first-rate, as are the production values and the period costumes.

Whenever anyone bothers to wear them.
