Will Ferrell takes the field in funny HBO trailer

Ruth. Mantle. Ferrell.

Only one of those greats — comedian and actor Will Ferrell — played 10 different positions for 10 different big league ballclubs in one memorable day this year in spring training.

While Ferrell reportedly helped raise almost $1 million for charity during his diamond odyssey, HBO also documented his exploits in "Ferrell Takes The Field," a special that will debut Sept. 12 on the cable TV network.

HBO recently released a funny "Ferrell Takes The Field" trailer, in which the actor said, "There's no doubt I turned some heads today. I brought passion to the field, dedication, ability and a lot of ignorance."

Ferrell, 48, also waxed poetic about the national pastime.

"They say nothing's more American than grabbing a hot dog, heading to the ballpark and watching nine guys from the Dominican Republic make magic on the field," he joked. "But, you know what, today I learned they are wrong. Make that eight Dominicans and one guy from Irvine, California."

Check out the trailer below.
