Investigative Reporter
Las Vegas, NV
The Las Vegas Review-Journal, one of the country’s 25 largest metro daily newspapers, is seeking an investigative reporter to produce hard-hitting, government-accountability investigations. We are looking for someone with a track record of impactful journalism that leads to change. Full-time investigative reporting experience is preferred, but we also will consider experienced beat reporters who have a history of delivering top-notch enterprise, investigative and public-records journalism.

This position will round out the Review-Journal’s award-winning, five-member investigative team. Las Vegas is a target-rich environment. In recent years, our stories have sparked indictments at the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, the Henderson constable’s office and the Nye County Sheriff’s Office. Other investigations resulted in audits and changes to state law. To be considered, your work should show those kinds of results.

Applicants should have extensive experience with public records requests and computer-assisted data analysis. Candidates who have extensive CAR skills will be given higher priority in the search process. Reporters on the team are allowed significant time to produce long-term projects but also are expected to develop quick turns and shorter investigations

Las Vegas is as dynamic a news market as anywhere in the country, and the Review-Journal is the area’s dominant news source. Southern Nevada is home to about 2.3 million people, plus up to 200,000 visitors on any given day. It is a diverse metro area with a vibrant downtown and cultural scene, and it’s a half-day drive or less to some of the West’s most spectacular outdoor recreation and national parks.

PACKAGING SUPERVISOR
This position manages all aspects of the Packaging Department including staffing, equipment maintenance, insert operation, commercial bindery operation, mail delivery, warehousing and deliveries to internal and external customers. Works closely with the Circulation department of the newspaper to provide solutions for a constantly changing product. Follows all safety and security policies and procedures in accordance with company policies and local, state and federal laws.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for staff development
  • Manages all shipping and receiving activities
  • Must be open and willing to change direction at the last minute when necessary
  • Responsible for the quality of all products during shifts supervised holds employees responsible for quality
  • Maintains effective communications with all departments involved in a specific job
  • Follows all safety procedures and reports any and all accidents in a timely manner
  • Displays a respectful and professional attitude while supporting a teamwork environment
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area
  • Is responsible for maintaining all equipment
  • Responsible for all shift production reports

Standards of Performance

  • Meets deadline and quality goals for all products produced in the mailroom
  • Meets budgetary goals
  • Minimizes downtime for all equipment
  • Cost/Profitability is tracked and recorded for all jobs

Requirements/Skills

  • Ability to manage a large staff
  • Bilingual communication is a plus
  • Knowledge of large-scale newspaper packaging/insertion operations
  • Solid understanding of an insert machine including staffing and maintenance requirements
  • Basic understanding of mailing equipment and USPS regulations
  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels, both written and verbal
  • Ability to layout an insert run if needed
  • Understanding of bindery equipment including folders and cutters
  • Experience with employee relations issues
  • Possesses machine computer skills as well as some knowledge of Excel
  • Must have basic math skills
  • Able to work in a fast paced, TEAM environment
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays
  • This position is based in the Las Vegas area
  • Must be able to pass in all relevant ways a drug screen and background check
