Boman saluted by Las Vegas Philharmonic at gala

Dr. Keith Boman was honored during the Las Vegas Philharmonic's Diamonds Are Forever gala at the M Resort on April 10.

A Las Vegas native and dedicated supporter of the arts, Boman has practiced cardiology for the past 30 years, and he has served as a trustee for the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation for the past 15 years.

Dinner committee chairs were Jeri Crawford and Patricia Pieper Fink. Committee members seen participating in the silent auction -- chaired by Wendy Plaster and Sondra Lynch -- were Juliana and Matthew McRae, Rick Crawford, Jeanne Greenawalt, Yvette and Ellis Landau, Amy and Ken Wiles, Melissa Warren, Irwin Kishner, Elena Jacob, Gloria and Mark Fine, Heather Allen and John Payne, Laura and Joe Essa, Christina and Alan Feldman, Dan Henson, Nancy and Kell Houssels, Denise and George Mehocic, Prisca and David Crawford, Stephanie and Marc Finkel, Michelle and Dallas Haun, Marilyn and Rod La Rocque, Alyse and Kep Sweeney, and Rhoda and Raymond Ring.

Master of ceremonies Dave Courvoisier, news anchor at KLAS-TV, Channel 8, introduced U.S. District Court Judge Lloyd George, who spoke about the Philharmonic's high level of artistic standards, its programming and community service initiatives.

Entertainment was provided by the Nevada School of the Arts String Ensemble and Jazz Trio as well as the Gilbert Magnet School Drum Team directed by Kay Lehto.

Christian Kolberg conducted a live auction for seven packages including a pedigree Yorkshire terrier puppy that went home with Jeanne Greenawalt.

The evening concluded with Mari Landers, vice president and general manager of Saks Fifth Avenue, sponsoring a Best of Saks Fashion Show featuring clips of James Bond films.

Other guests included Mariam and Rokh Afshai, Kari and Jonathan Halkyard, Dana and Myron Martin, Louis Fink, Janis and Phil Mano, Toni Carpenter, Rebecca Garrett and Kenneth Foon, Lucille and Don Weinberger, Christine Petersen, LaPrele George, Jewel Brooks, Jack Libby, Monica Fuller, June Bramble, Beverly and Mike Mykisen, Dee and Don Snyder, Bob Forbuss, Selma Bartlett, Carolyn and John Glaser, Persia and James Golden, and Patricia and Richard Wright.

Vegas Dozen: Saks Fifth Avenue presented 12 well-known men who exemplify personal and professional commitent to our community with the Vegas Dozen Award on April 14 at the store in the Fashion Show mall.

The sold-out event benefited the Nevada Cancer Institute.

The event was emceed by entertainer Phyllis McGuire, and entertainment was by Human Nature.

This year's honorees were: Dr. Joseph Adashek; Jeffrey Fine, chief executive officer of Silver Nugget Gaming and Fine Properties; Madison Graves, principal, Juliet Cos. LLC; Todd-Avery Lenahan, ABA Design Studio; William McBeath, president and chief operating officer, Aria; former Gov. Bob Miller; Michael Morrissey, president of Morrissey Insurance; Phil Ruffin, owner of Treasure Island; Daniel Sheridan, executive vice president, General Growth Properties; Neal Smatresk, president of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; Bob Stoldal, executive vice president of news, Sunbelt Communications; and comedian George Wallace.
