SIGNINGS

"An Afternoon with Heart Lanier Shapre' " featuring the author discussing her book "Elvis Through My Eyes" will be presented at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave. A book signing will follow.

"An Evening with Michael Chabon" the closing keynote speaker of the Vegas Valley Book Festival will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. A book sale and signing will be available. Wristbands will be given out one hour prior to the event on a first-come, first-served basis.

EVENTS

The Vegas Valley Book Festival will be Thursday through Saturday at the Fifth Street School at Fourth Street and Lewis Avenue. The festival will feature authors, readings, book signings, workshops, panel discussions, poetry and spoken word performances, exhibitions and other activities. "An Evening with Neil Gaiman," featuring the author discussing his work and influences, will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday at Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. Wristbands will be given out one hour before the event on a first come, first-served basis.

"A Conversation with David Hajdu: How the Great Comic Books Scare Changed America" will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.

The Vegas Valley Comic Book Festival featuring panel discussions; film screenings; and guests including Steve Niles, Dwayne McDuffie, Deryl Skelton, Gilbert Hernandez, Steven Grant, Gary Groth, Chris Staros, David Hadju, Charles Holbert, Drew Edwards and others will be 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.

Target Children's Book Festival featuring children's authors, story time events, a puppet show, arts and crafts, performances, information booths, costumed characters and other activities will be 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Plaza at the Fifth Street School, Fourth Street and Lewis Avenue.

Catholic author Michael Brown, who has studied claims of miracles around the world, will have a retreat 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at The Orleans, 4500 W. Tropicana Ave. For more information and to register, call (386) 446-8139.

STORY TIMES

Story time with music and crafts is offered Tuesdays at 11 a.m. and the second Saturday of the month at Barnes & Noble, 567 N. Stephanie St., Henderson.

Story time in the Square is offered at 11 a.m. Wednesdays in Children's Park at Town Square Las Vegas, 6605 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

Story time is offered at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays at the NeverEnding Bookshoppe, 9440 W. Sahara Ave.

Individual libraries within the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District offer a variety of story times and special events for children of all ages throughout the year. Most libraries require registration for their programs. Call the libraries for details.
