Always in Vogue

If you've read the reviews for "The September Issue," then surely you've heard the Grace Coddington laurels sung in every note imaginable. We could easily provide the backup vocals and echo the praise, but we'd rather focus on a few memorable highlights of the documentary that opens in Las Vegas theaters Friday at Suncoast.

For anyone living under a fashion rock, the film takes a behind-the-scenes look at Vogue's production of its largest issue to date, the 2007 September magazine with Sienna Miller on the cover.

BEST STEREOTYPICAL QUOTE

When Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour asserts that people "mock" the fashion industry because they feel "excluded ... not part of the cool group." No one has explained to her that Vogue is a magazine, not the head cheerleader's table in the school cafeteria.

BEST 'HUH?' MOMENT

When a fashion show goer whispers into the ear of Andre Leon Talley -- Wintour's right-hand man -- that "Anna is the most powerful woman in the United States." Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama must be dying to get a foot in her door.

BEST INTRODUCTION

When Vogue creative director Grace Coddington speaks on camera the first time and drops an "F" bomb. With all the Thakoon, resort wear, color-blocking and sample size-talk, someone was finally speaking a language the nonfashion audience could understand.

BEST REBELLION

When Wintour's daughter rolls her eyes at the prospect of working as a fashion editor because there are "other things out there." Quick, someone inform this girl she's risking exclusion from the cool group!

BEST FIGHTIN' WORDS

When Wintour insists that "there's always a way to wear fur." We could just picture PETA organizers concluding that there's always a way to splash Wintour with red paint.
