DRESS LIKE A KING

That's Jaime King, the model turned actress. If you didn't recognize her it's either because you've never heard of her or because she's "out of costume." King's shiny blond locks are tucked away and her face holds less makeup than a Judith Leiber clutch. Yet, she looks picture-perfect. The overdone and underwired should take note.

What we love most about this pared down look is the fact it still manages to appear dressed up. She starts the smoke and mirrors effect with the silk lace-trimmed skirt. Resemble something familiar? Your mother probably used to don one of these underneath her frocks. If she didn't, her mother definitely did. The slip might have lost its luster with young America, but we have no doubt the French-inspired, underwear as outerwear trend will call for an encore performance.

That aside, the smooth touch and elastic waistband make it more comfortable than your ratty couch potato sweats.

King takes her Parisian nod one step further with a knit beret. It's the perfect remedy for a bad hair day or just plain old laziness. The charming hat looks like a fabulous accessory, but it's really just a great excuse to get your hair off your face without resorting to a tired ponytail. Her blouse is equally deceiving. The bow tie and sheer fabric make you think fancy schmancy, but the self-tied knot and rolled up sleeves bring it back to the kick-your-feet-up level.

She finishes it off with a pair of velvet ballet flats, the equivalent of chicken soup for the sole. Bravo, to King for perfecting the jeans and T-shirt tone sans the jeans and T-shirt. To do the same, consider these items.
