Show Us Your Purse
■ Who? Genevieve Cleary, president of Belluscious Productions, show producer, artistic director and choreographer
■ Location: Marquee at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas
■ Handbag: Billabong drawstring bag
■ Are handbags status symbols? Not for me. I think it is definitely great to have a nice handbag to match your shoes and fit with your outfit for special events or nights out. However, it is more about a question of style than to position one's social status (again, for me). On a day-to-day basis, a handbag should be practical and useful. And, I don't care if it is a Valentino or a beach bag from Walmart, it just has to be practical and solid enough to hold all my accessories.
■ What does this bag say about you? That I should perhaps think of having a suitcase instead of a hand bag. I have a tendency to overpack it, putting even my lap top in it. It definitely says that I work 20 hours a day and travel with my office.
■ If someone found your bag and looked inside, what would he/she think of you? That I have way too much stuff in there.
■ What's the most important item you've carried in your bag? My passport because I travel a lot.
■ What's the strangest item you've carried in your bag? Glue gun sticks and a screwdriver (and I have been carrying them for many years).
■ Tell us about the first special bag you owned. I actually used to love stealing my mom's purses. The more colorful and exotic they were, the more I would try to put my hands on it. Finally, one day my mom decided to give me one of her bags. It was a real nice big one where I could put my toys and drawing kit. I've just always been using handbags to carry as much as possible with me. You never know what you might need in a day!
■ Knockoffs: Love 'em or hate 'em? Love 'em. Why not?
■ Image is ... one of many ways to express ourselves, our moods, our vision.
■ What's in your bag? 1. MP3 player, 2. Glue gun with glue sticks (whenever there is a costume that needs a bit of last-minute attention, I'm prepared), 3. Jewelry (because you never know when you might have to be a bit more chic), 4. Screwdriver (it first started because I was a tap dancer and I needed to fix my tap plates for better sound), 5. BlackBerry, 6. Passport.
