Show Us Your Purse
• Who? Shelley Alexander, cocktail waitress at Smokin' Hot Aces at The Venetian
• Location: Smokin' Hot Aces at The Venetian
• Handbag: Large black leather hobo with silver accents
• Are handbags status symbols? I think they say a lot about their owner, however, I don't think that they define someone's status. We as women get the opportunity to express ourselves using what is really just a contraption to hold stuff. It's that simple. No one should feel better or worse because of the placement of their purse on their hierarchy of bags. Have fun with it.
• What does this bag say about you? It says I need some space because I'm doing things. Being on the go a lot means I need to pack for anything and I need a bag that's willing to substitute as a small suitcase.
• If someone found your bag and looked inside, what would they think of you? They would think "Wow, what a fun girl with a splash of obsessive compulsive disorder."
• What's the most important item you've carried in your bag? My dog, Frankie
• What's the strangest item you've carried in your bag? A pair of fishnet stockings
• Tell us about the first special bag you owned. Well, it wasn't necessarily a bag, but a small purse made from a coconut. I bought it on a cruise taken with my mother. ... It remains part of a very special memory.
• Knockoffs: Love 'em or hate 'em? I have to say I hate them. I don't see the point in buying a knockoff of a brand name. I find much more beauty in originality and I don't think the bag has to be expensive or stamped with a repetitive logo to make it fashionable.
• Image is ... the expression of self. It is when you are comfortable enough in your own shoes, or purse in this case, to reveal the true you.
• What's in your bag? 1. Granola bar, 2. Business card holder, complete with Smokin' Hot Aces free drink card, 3. Funky reading glasses, 4. Earplugs, 5. Kootie Killer orange hand sanitizer, 6. Yoga class planner.
