Gilday-Shaffer honored at Advocacy Award gala

The Nevada Arts Advocates 10th annual Advocacy Award gala Oct. 4 honored R&R Live's Julie Gilday-Shaffer for strong support of the arts in Nevada with an evening of entertainment, fine dining and philanthropy inside of Red Rock Resort's Pavilion Ballroom.

The evening began with a silent auction to raise money for the nonprofit organization's teacher enrichment and scholarship programs.

Silent auction items included tickets to Strip shows such as "Phantom -- The Las Vegas Spectacular," "Mamma Mia!" and "Stomp Out Loud"; an oil painting by Steve Kaufman; a Christian Dior gift basket; a professional poker chip set; high tea at the Four Seasons; artwork by Rick Preston and assorted diamond, topaz and amethyst jewelry.

A host of entrepreneurial, business and philanthropic notables attended the event, including board member Randy Soard, Nevada Arts Advocacy Executive Director Angie Wallin, Rossi and Jo Rolenkatter, Kevin Bagger, Art Jimenez and Terry Jicinsky of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Cathy and Martin Tull, Pat and Diane Clary, artist Joe Palermo, Tim Jones, Maryjane Dorofachuk, Debbie Tarantino, Jack Chappell, Barbara Good, Debbie Joanites, Kendall Grundell, Ariel Land, Sarah Sheehan, Donna Fisher and Art and C.J. Wolston.

The auction was followed with a three-course meal and appearances by Las Vegas entertainer Clint Holmes and his wife, Kelly Clinton Holmes, and the Bishop Gorman High School band.

Also in attendance were dinner chairpersons Don and Jeanne Hamrick and Adrianna Escobar, board member Brian McAnallen, Lisa and Sandy Windom, Debbie Holleran, Carmetta Chisholm, state Sen. Dina Titus, D-Las Vegas, Annette Magnus, Margaret McMillan, Victoria Gordon, Richard Minnear, Rachel Wilkinson, Bridgett Moore, Tim and Sharry Quillin.
