Give classic holiday lyrics Vegas twist

There's still time to employ your lyric-writing talents in service to our off-kilter tribute to Christmas music.

The idea is to upgrade some classic holiday tunes with new, more Vegascentric lyrics. So, just take the melody to a classic Christmas carol or holiday song, write new lyrics to replace the real ones, and send your new lyrics to us. We'll feature a few of the revised songs in a future story and online.

Then, we might even arrange to film you singing your song and post your performance on our Web site.

Be sure to focus on traditional tunes -- songs that everybody already knows -- when creating your original variation. Just to be sure, tell us what tune you're playing off of, and include along with your lyrics your name, age, address and daytime phone number.

The writer of the tune that inspires, entertains or impresses us the most will receive an iTunes gift card.

Send your lyrics to: Features Department Holiday Sing-along, Las Vegas Review-Journal, P.O. Box 70, Las Vegas, NV 89125-0070. Or fax them to 383-4676. Or e-mail them to jprzybys@reviewjournal.com and be sure to write "Holiday Sing-along" in the subject line.

But we do need your lyrics by 5 p.m. Thursday, so get busy.
