Family planning services now offered at health district’s new headquarters

The Southern Nevada Health District has added family planning to the list of services offered at its new headquarters.

A family planning clinic, formerly located at the health district’s Shadow Lane campus, officially opened this week at the district’s 280 S. Decatur Blvd. location, near Meadows Lane.

The clinic, which held a soft opening last week, offers services including pregnancy testing, birth control, emergency contraception, health assessments and referrals, according to a news release.

It is open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday by appointment only, excepting emergency contraception visits, and has four full-time staff members, according to the health district. Staffing could expand depending on client volume.

“Family planning and the availability of contraception are considered among the last century’s greatest public health accomplishments,” district Chief Health Officer Dr. Joseph Iser said in the release. “The ability to plan a family and space pregnancies is a key aspect of women’s health care.”

Family planning services will still be offered at the East Las Vegas Public Health Center at 570 N. Nellis Blvd., near Stewart Avenue.

The district debuted its new 110,000-square-foot headquarters at an open house on March 8.

The former Target location underwent roughly $11 million in renovations, beginning in July.
