Holiday bazaars offer shoppers a bounty of possibilities

With the arrival of fall comes the countdown to the fast approaching holidays.

To help those who like to start their holiday shopping early, and to support good causes, the Las Vegas Review-Journal presents its annual list of craft bazaars.

This year, the Children’s Service Guild will have its 40th annual Holiday Boutique from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Elks Lodge, 4100 W. Charleston Blvd. The proceeds benefit Child Haven and children touched by the family court system. Funds go toward clothing for the children, medical, dental and vision expenses, holiday gifts, to support Peggy’s Attic and help sponsor the Spring Mountain Youth Camp. Past proceeds have gone toward building a playground on the campus and a rope course for the teen boys and girls.

The guild, which features more than 35 members, plans and prepares for the annual holiday boutique year-round.

Elise Rigatuso, a board member and historian for the guild, says the members are “really dedicated and very involved.”

“This group I’m with is amazing. We all love the children so much and work really hard for them,” Rigatuso says.

For this year’s boutique, Rigatuso has created pet Christmas cards, shadowboxes and other items, and the guild’s president, Lynda Kreitlow, has created wreaths. Other items for sale will be centerpieces, holiday items, pet stockings, baby items, knitted and crocheted scarves and hats, jams and jellies, and a variety of baked goods including cakes, cookies and fudge.

This year’s drawing features gift cards and services donated by businesses. Among the prizes are a mini staycation at The Venetian and passes to Disneyland. Tickets for the drawing are $1 apiece or six tickets for $5.

The boutique will feature holiday music performed by the Las Vegas High School Madrigal Choir, and a “surprise visitor” is expected. Admission and parking are free.
