Design center seeks entries for inaugural competition

Las Vegas Design Center is presenting its inaugural Design of the Year Awards competition, which seeks to recognize excellence in design among Southern Nevada interior designers and design students.

Open only to interior designers based in Southern Nevada, the contest aims to showcase projects that demonstrate exceptional design and creativity.

To be considered for the competition, projects must have been completed in 2010 or 2011. They can be located anywhere in the world.

Entries will be judged on design theme/concept, context (project's relationship to its environment/surroundings), innovation in materials/usage and overall execution.

Each entry must include a minimum of three and a maximum of 10 photographs of the project. If the project is a remodel, before and after photos must be submitted.

Additionally, entries require four elevations, a reflected ceiling plan and a narrative statement of no more than 300 words describing the inspiration behind the design and what makes it exceptional.

Entries will be accepted until Oct. 25.

A panel of judges from Las Vegas Design Center showrooms and World Market Center Las Vegas senior management will review the submissions and select the winners, who will be recognized during a luncheon Nov. 10. In addition to the overall winner, there will be first and second runners-up and a student winner.

The awards and lunch will be held at Mundo, A Culinary Haute Spot, located within the design center. It is scheduled from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
