Power of gold making a bold comeback

For decades, the color gold was discarded as old-fashioned and blasé. But now, it's making a bold comeback and has found its way back into fashion, jewelry and home decor.

Getting started

You don't have to just dive in using gold in your decor. One suggestion is to instead add touches of gold throughout your space or home. The best way to achieve this is to bring in gold accents into your space, either through your finishes — a door handle or table leg — or through an accessory such as a mirror or accent piece.

Working with other colors

Many homeowners shy away from what they may consider to be glitz and sparkle. And metallic finishes like gold, for some, fall into this category. Metallics are actually wonderful neutrals that pair easily with other colors. In fact, the bright aspect of gold often brings out the radiance and brightness of the colors it is paired with. If you are looking for suggestions, try hot pink, orange, lime green and mustard yellow.

Try yellow

Yellow is a solid choice to pair with gold when looking to create an overall color scheme. Because of the yellow-based tone in gold finishes, mustard yellow is especially flattering when paired with gold. Looking for other colors? Deep, chocolate, rich brown is a fantastic choice at it helps to balance out gold and gold-based tones, and it helps to prevent it from looking or feeling brassy.

Where to find it

On the long list of ways to add gold to your home decor, one great way to start is with a decorative mirror made with a gold finish. Other ideas include candle holders, sconces, small figurines or accent pieces.
