Something special this way comes

There are times when you don’t realize something is missing from the picture until you stumble across that special something. Nowhere is this more evident than when decorating your home.

Fortunately, Thomasville has the solution: its new Modern Artefacts collection.

Featuring 31 pieces, the collection is an eclectic mix of occasional and accent items that appear to have been collected throughout the world over time. They are made of materials that are equally eclectic, including glass, metal, raffia, leather, acrylic and petrified stone.

“Modern Artefacts is incredibly diverse, with each piece telling its own style story,” said Gregory Heller, vice president and chief creative officer, Thomasville Retail. “We created this assortment so everyone can find that one special piece that resonates with his or her own personal style, whether that is traditional, modern or anything in between.”

In other words, it features those special pieces that complete the picture.

“The beauty of these pieces is that they are not room specific, but they breathe life into a room of existing furniture. Just one piece can add a bit of character and personality to a room,” he said.

“You can sprinkle them wherever you need an accent in your home,” agreed Rick Stroud, vice president of sales for Thomasville as he walked through the North Carolina-based company’s showroom at World Market Center Las Vegas.

During the recent summer market, pieces from the Modern Artefacts collection were prominently featured in vignettes that represented traditional living rooms and bedrooms, along with modern sitting areas.

“Every vignette was created to look like the doorbell just rang and somebody got up to answer the door,” he said about the rooms’ livable style.

Heller said the collection has a variety of tables (cocktail, side, drinks, accent), along with consoles, cabinets, étagères and decorative chests. Because they are so unique, the pieces defy classification by any particular decorating style.

That was intentional, Heller said. They wanted homeowners to be able to add and mix pieces from the collection anywhere in their home, creating a style that isn’t defined by a particular lifestyle or period.

“We think they are an amazing offering in style, materials and value, with items ranging from $449 for a drinks table to the $3,000 range for a leather-wrapped studded decorative chest,” he said.

That also makes the pieces extremely versatile.

“A decorative chest could be used in a living room or a dining room, while an étagère could have a place in an office, a dining room or a living room,” Heller said.

In addition to their unique look, several of the pieces bring in an element of functionality.

“While offering beauty and style, several of the pieces have incredible functionality. For example, the Broome tray table has a removable tray, making it incredibly easy for entertaining. The Piccadilly tea table has wheels, so it can roll effortlessly from one room to another,” he said.

The collection is expected to hit retail floors within 30 days.
