Inns offer free night to military, border patrol

Bed-and-breakfast operators in Cedar City, Utah, will donate free one-night stays to border patrol and U.S. military personnel, in appreciation for their defense of the nation.

Ten properties are participating in the program and will donate 150 room nights between now and January. The offer is for the first 150 out-of-area, active duty personnel who book a reservation. An additional 25 percent discount will be offered to any extending a stay beyond the free night. Specific information and online booking can be found at www. lodgingcedarcity.com.

"This is our way to say thank you for protecting our country," said Nan Johnson, proprietor of the Anniversary House B&B. "We want to offer a respite and a breathtaking experience in the national parks and monuments of Southern Utah."

Less than a three-hour drive north of Las Vegas, Cedar City is known as a gateway to national parks. It is nestled among Zion, Kolob Canyon and Bryce Canyon national parks and Cedar Breaks National Monument. Cedar City is home to the Utah Shakespearean Festival.

Bed-and-breakfast inns are smaller properties that offer a more personal touch than standard motels or hotels. All rooms involved in this offer have private bathrooms and areas for relaxation.

Participating bed-and-breakfasts are: Big Yellow Inn, Across the Street B&B, 1897 Iron Gate Inn, Anniversary House B&B, Amid Summer's Inn, Cherished Memories B&B, Storybook B&B, The Bard B&B, Victorian Rose B&B, and Willow Glen Inn.
