‘Jail’ captures O.J. behind bars

O.J. Simpson wished he had something to read when he arrived at the Clark County Detention Center last month, and told jailers he had been planning to host a poker game at home in Miami before he was brought to Las Vegas to spend several nights behind bars.

"I didn't expect to be back here so soon," Simpson says, laughing, as he's greeted by a Las Vegas police jail officer, according to a transcript released Monday by producers of the MyNetworkTV show "Jail."

Morgan Langley, an executive producer for the show, said a crew already was filming at the Clark County Detention Center when the former football star arrived late Jan. 11 in the custody of his former bail bondsman. The segment airs at 9 p.m. today (KVMY-TV, Channel 21).

"It was not something we were expecting," Langley said of Simpson's appearance, which Langley said drew cheers from other people in an intake waiting room at the jail. "It was a little bit strange."

Simpson's lawyers did not immediately respond Monday to messages seeking comment.

"I used to love coming to Vegas," Simpson tells a jailer, according to the transcript. "Now (I) hate it."

Simpson says he was having a good day before he was brought back to Las Vegas.

"Overall, I am feeling great today," Simpson tells a police sergeant. "I had a poker game tonight at my house that I was hosting, and today I finally found my golf swing."

Simpson was held at the jail until Jan. 16, when District Judge Jackie Glass ruled he violated terms of his bail agreement by trying to contact a co-defendant in his armed robbery case.

Simpson was freed and returned to Miami after his bail was doubled from $125,000 to $250,000.

Simpson and two other men are due for trial April 7 on charges including kidnapping and robbery stemming from a Sept. 13 confrontation with two sports memorabilia dealers in a Palace Station hotel room.
