Literary Las Vegas: Lacey Hawk
September 7, 2016 - 10:40 am
Lacey Hawk, local author, screenwriter, faith healer and spiritual counselor, teaches kids about the consequences of vanity in her children’s book, “Maximilian the Most Handsome Kitten in the World.” Maximilian, his siblings and his mama all know he’s the cutest kitten around. But as his sister Penelope notices, “He’s got the seeded.” “Oh, my darling Penelope,” Mama responds. “The word is not seeded. It’s conceited.” When Maximilian misses dinner, snuggle time and even naps to gaze at himself in the mirror, he learns that being lovely isn’t everything, but being loved is.
Excerpt:
Maximilian smiled at himself in the mirror one last time, loving the sight of his own beauty. Then he sighed and pulled his gaze away, jumped onto the toilet seat, then down onto the floor. With his head held high, he walked past Penelope.
Penelope gave him a playful swat, but Maximilian was not happy about that. He immediately licked the spot of ruffled fur, then said to Penelope, “Hey babe, don’t be messin’ with the coat.”
Penelope was shocked at the way Maximilian spoke to her. He usually wanted to play and romp around.
