Mountain Dew is bringing back grape-flavored Pitch Black

Keeping with the trend of bringing back retro sodas like Coca-Cola's Surge and Crystal Pepsi, fans of Mountain Dew now have something to celebrate as the company announced this week they will be re-releasing Pitch Black.

This isn't the first return for Pitch Black. The once-popular grape-flavored drink, which first emerged onto the beverage market in 2004, had three other brief returns in 2005, 2006 and 2011, Ad Age reported.

The current comeback was fueled by an "overwhelming demand," according to Mountain Dew.

Between a Facebook fan page devoted to the drink and an online petition, fans of the flavor went to great lengths to capture the company's attention and get them to bring the drink out of the dark.

Fans will have to work a little harder this time if they want to get their hands on a bottle.

In order to receive a 15-pack of the drink, enthusiasts must enter a sweepstakes on the Mountain Dew Facebook page in which they must "tell Mountain Dew why they want a case of Mtn. Dew Pitch Black in the comments of the sweepstakes post using #WeWantPitchBlack and #Sweeps."

The brand plans to give away 15-packs of Pitch Black to 1,050 people.
